Market Summary - November 6, 2026

Wall Street Rebounds

US indices experienced a notable rebound on Friday, with the S&P 500 rising by 0.7% and the Nasdaq 100 increasing by 1.7%. This recovery was primarily driven by technology stocks, particularly semiconductor companies, which had faced significant sell-offs the previous day. Despite the positive movement, the rebound remains modest following the Nasdaq's steepest decline in 19 months.

Strong NFP Data

The October Non-Farm Payroll (NFP) report exceeded expectations, showing an increase of 165,000 jobs compared to the forecast of 65,000. The unemployment rate decreased to 4.1% from 4.2%, and the labor force participation rate rose to 61.9%. This data indicates a resilient US labor market, which may reduce the likelihood of rapid policy easing by the Federal Reserve and alleviate recession concerns. However, it may also lead to more hawkish expectations regarding future interest rates.

Currency and Commodity Movements

The EUR/USD currency pair fell by nearly 0.6%, dropping below 1.115, influenced by stronger-than-expected US economic data. The US Dollar Index futures are trading near local highs, despite a pullback in US Treasury yields. In contrast, euro-area retail sales for September disappointed, showing a month-over-month decline of 0.7% against an expected decline of 0.1%.

Brent crude futures are retreating after nearing $100 per barrel. Reports suggest that Iran is considering proposals to limit its nuclear program, which could potentially reduce geopolitical risks in oil markets. Gold prices have slightly declined but remain above $4,050 per ounce, while Bitcoin is trading near $75,500 without a significant rebound.

Market Reactions to Earnings Reports

On the earnings front, Vistra Energy and Moderna reported positive results, with their shares rising approximately 10% and 5%, respectively. Additionally, Lam Research's shares gained 8% following the announcement of a $25 billion share repurchase program.

Federal Reserve Insights

Mary Daly from the Federal Reserve commented on the solid labor market and moderate wage growth, indicating that the latest jobs report provides the Fed with room to continue addressing inflation. However, she noted that services inflation is not declining as expected, suggesting that further policy tightening may be necessary.

Consumer Sentiment Improvement

The preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment index for November rose to 51.0, surpassing expectations of 48. The expectations subindex improved to 50.9, and the current conditions index increased to 51.0. Additionally, inflation expectations have softened, with the one-year measure dropping to 4.3% from 4.7%.

OpenAI's Investment Plans

OpenAI announced its intention to continue aggressive investments in AI infrastructure, despite facing social and political opposition to data center development in the US. The company's CFO emphasized that the midterm election results would not alter their strategy, although future investments will depend on local regulations and energy costs.

Technical Analysis

On the technical front, the US500 index is gaining but struggling to surpass a major resistance zone near the EMA200. If the index closes below 7500 points, investor sentiment may turn cautious heading into the next week, with 7300 points identified as a significant support level.
