Market Analysis: Gold, Silver, and Platinum Forecasts

Published: October 19, 2026

Gold Market Overview

Gold prices have recently pulled back towards the $4150 level as traders shift their focus to the strengthening U.S. dollar and rising Treasury yields. The bond market is under pressure due to increasing oil prices, exacerbated by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly the conflict involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

The yield on 2-year Treasuries has surpassed 4.77%, while the 10-year yield is around 4.15%. These rising yields are generally bearish for gold, which does not yield interest. Despite the pressure from rising oil prices, traders do not anticipate a Federal Reserve rate hike in the upcoming October meeting, with the probability of such an increase dropping to 17.2%. However, expectations are for rate hikes in December and January as the Fed continues its efforts to combat inflation.

The U.S. dollar has gained strength against a range of currencies, partly due to civil unrest in France, where protests have turned violent. This situation has bolstered the dollar's safe-haven appeal, negatively impacting dollar-denominated commodities like gold.

Technically, gold has struggled to maintain levels above the resistance range of $4160 - $4180 and has retreated below $4150. Should gold settle below this level, it may target the next support zone between $4000 and $4020.

Silver Market Insights

Silver has shown some resilience, gaining ground as the gold/silver ratio has pulled back below 72.50. If this ratio continues to decline, it could signal bullish momentum for silver. For silver to maintain upward momentum, it needs to hold above the support levels of $56.00 - $57.00, with potential targets at the psychologically significant $60.00 level. A breach above $60.00 could lead to testing resistance at $61.00 - $62.00.

Conversely, if silver falls below $56.00, it may face downward pressure, targeting the next support levels around $51.00 - $52.00.

Platinum Market Dynamics

Platinum prices have increased despite the backdrop of rising Treasury yields and oil prices. The palladium market's uptick of +0.8% has positively influenced platinum. The outlook for platinum remains uncertain, particularly if oil prices continue to rise amid geopolitical tensions, which could dampen global demand.

Platinum has rebounded after previously failing to settle below the support range of $1600 - $1620. If it can maintain above this level, it may aim for resistance at $1700 - $1720, with a further move above $1720 potentially targeting the 50-day moving average at $1750. On the downside, a successful test of the $1600 - $1620 support could lead to a test of the next support levels at $1520 - $1540.
